Nutshell by Alice in Chains (cover)

This is the 30th anniversary of Alice in Chains' album Dirt. I heard the album for the first time probably a decade after it released. My discovery of Rock music and Seattle's flavor of it was sometime after the turn of the century. Layne passed in a couple of years. With Rock there's always a high casualty rate.

Jerry Cantrell's guitar riffs sounded big. With its own identity, and, complete. With a motif, a body, and an end. Layne's vocals & lyrics took it to a whole another level. The lyrics themselves; knowing what transpired in his life, is a window into his life and struggles with war, addiction, and loneliness.

Here's a cover of this song I recorded in a single take with my Portable recorder. I'm using a Baby Talyor acoustic + delay + looper pedals going into my Bass amp.  It's a meloncholic song, with a rather somber message.

💙
We chase misprinted lies
We face the wrath of time
And yet I fight, and yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home

My gift of self is r**
My privacy is raked
And yet I find, and yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel/be better dead
